Correct me if I’m wrong, but we are facing tremendous budget shortfalls as a country right? We do have an ever-growing budget deficit and burgeoning federal debt don’t we? I thought so, and that is why for the life of me I can’t figure out why Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow continue to flush tax dollars down the drain. The drain in this case happens to be the already partially demolished Tiger Stadium.
Now I’m a huge fan of our nation’s past time, and I don’t have a problem with preserving locations and elements of baseball yesteryear, but federal tax dollars are not the way to go about rescuing half-demolished stadiums for the sake of nostalgia. If the project is really that important to the people of the State of Michigan and baseball enthusiasts, then I’m sure the Save Tiger Stadium folks can raise the $15 million dollars needed to save the ballpark through private funds – not the tax dollars of hard working Americans who I’m sure would like to see their money go to a much nobler cause. Despite the tremendous waste, Senators Levin and Stabenow successfully had a $4 million dollar earmark approved by a Senate subcommittee to help fund the project as part of the 2009 Federal Budget.
